Hyperacusis Tinnitus

Hyperacusis tinnitus is an extreme sensitivity to sound. About 8% of the population suffer from this condition, with most sufferers not being born with a sensitivity to sound. Instead, they develop weak eardrums as they get older. Hyperacusis tinnitus is different from regular cases of tinnitus. Hyperaciusis refers to a sensitivity to sound. When someone suffers from hyperacusis tinnitus, they not only are experience ringing in their ears, but they also have developed a sensitivity to sound.

There are a number of different potential causes of hyperacusis tinnitus. This could include damage to the inner ear, Meniere's disease, lyme disease, excessive prolonged exposure to loud noises, migraines, chronic ear infections, and side effects of some medications. It's believed though that most cases of this form of tinnitus are caused by damage to the inner ear, causing signals to be missent to the brain and causing sensitivity to noise.

Hyperacusis tinnitus can be treated in a number of different ways, just like standard tinnitus. Medications, tinnitus maskers, and therapy have all proven to be useful. Be careful with medications because many have tinnitus as a possible side effect, so in attempting to relieve tinnitus, you might actually make it worse. After discussing medication options with your doctor, they still might decide to prescribe antidepressants to help cope with any depression that is a result of the hyperacusis tinnitus. Often times this form of tinnitus can be linked to migraines, so treating the migraines can inadvertently relieve the tinnitus as well.

Often times treatment methods that don't involve medication are prefered because of possible side effects with medical treatments. Protecting your ears by wearing ear plugs in situations with loud noises is crucial to keep further damage from occurring. Being in situations with loud noises will also make your tinnitus worse, so protect your ears. Tinnitus maskers are a safe way to drown on the ringing. They can be used anytime and anywhere, but most sufferers just utilize them at night when there are fewer outside noises to compete with the tinnitus. Maskers can come in a variety of different sounds, from white noise to whale calls. Avoiding foods and drinks that can trigger migraines, alcohol for example, is also a good idea.
