Aion is one of the biggest new MMOs of the last couple of years and with that fresh new content comes a slew of people looking to track down what is surely a lot of extremely new information. One of the most commonly asked about details for the new game is the crafting system. So much different than other crafting systems in MMOs, there are a lot of people who don't quite understand how it works yet. So, here is a brief rundown of what professions are available and how they operate:
The Gathering
The first thing you need to know is that gathering is not a profession in Aion. Rather, it is a freely available skill to anyone as long as you take the time to level it up. You start out on the ground with Collecting. Up to Level 10, you can go to a skill level of 99, though realistically, you'll only get to about 40 at the most. After you ascend to a Daeva, you will be upgraded to Extraction, which allows you to gather resources as well as Aether. The same skill points apply here though, so you can continue to level up from where you were.
The Crafting
Also at level 10, you can start crafting with one of the 6 crafting professions in Aion. Each profession has as different purpose, allowing you to create various items you can use in the game:
Alchemy – With Alchemy, you will create all sorts of valuable items including Manastones, potions, scrolls, orbs, spellbooks and more. This is the ultimate profession for anyone who will be casting away in end-game content.
Armorsmithing – Armorsmiths take on the heavy task of forming chain and plate armor and shields. These guys are best suited as Gladiators, Templars, Clerics, and Chanters who need to make their own gear.
Cooking – Cooks will craft hundreds of unique recipes for stat boosting food in the game. These guys are highly useful in Legions and can help boost the way in which you play the game ten times over.
Handicrafting – The Handicrafters out there will make the biggest bucks by crafting the rare and hard to get trinkets and accessories that are needed by every class in the game. Additionally, they work on the staves and bows that no other class can make – so this is a perfect class for anyone in need of big Kinah returns or who use staves and bows.
Tailoring – Tailors will make the cloth and leather armor in the game, so this profession is best for anyone who wears it, including the Clerics, Rangers, Assassins, and Mages out there.
Weaponsmithing – All big and heavy weapons go through the weaponsmiths, including daggers, swords, maces, polearms, and greatswords. If you use a melee weapon or know who to sell them to, this is the profession for you.
To key to the professions is that you can easily load up on all 6 of them but can only truly master one of them. This allows you to get a feel for all of them before making a final decision and adds quite a bit of depth to the game in places you might not have expected.
