Secretarial Services or Virtual Assistant?

These terms are often interchanged. Busy professionals, businesses, and entrepreneurs are using secretarial services and virtual assistants for the same reasons:

- They need help with administrative work, office support services, routine tasks, and other time-consuming projects.
- They don't want to hire a full-time in-house secretary and provide employee benefits, office space and equipment.
- They don't have time to do all the work themselves and use outside help to take some of the workload off their shoulders.

Here are some similarities between secretarial services and VAs:

- They provide administrative support to businesses and entrepreneurs and a variety of office support services that may include typing, word processing, data entry, Internet research, email services, correspondence, and clerical tasks typically performed by an office secretary.
- They are self-employed entrepreneurs and independent contractors.
- They work from their own office and use their own equipment.

By using the Internet, email, phone, and mailing services, businesses can outsource any work that can be done from a remote location, and virtual assistants and secretarial services can assist businesses from anywhere in the world.

What are the differences between a secretarial service operator and a virtual assistant?

- Secretarial services are perceived as typists and word processors. VAs are portrayed as highly skilled and trained professionals.
- Secretarial services are typically providing typing, word processing, data entry and other office support services. In addition to typical secretarial services, VAs often provide specialized services. These may include graphic design, web design, bookkeeping, realtor assistance, writing, event planning, and programming. The services VAs and secretarial services can provide are endless depending upon their knowledge and skills.
- Secretarial services were traditionally working with local clients but today they are also working with distance clients and can therefore call themselves virtual assistants. Most VAs assist both local and long-distance clients.
- In the past, clients dropped off work to secretarial services but today they often work through email, phone, fax and mail. VAs get work assignments through the Internet, telephone, fax, and email.
- VAs need a web site, must be Internet savvy, and must be proficient with Internet marketing to promote their services online and get nationwide and global clients.

Your prospective clients often interchange the terms secretarial services and virtual assistant depending on their industry, location, country, and cultural background.

Secretarial services can present themselves as virtual assistants to provide a wider range of services and reach a larger market. If you are working or are planning to work with long-distance clients, you can call yourself a VA. You can even consider a local client "virtual" if you don't meet regularly. If you want to be perceived as a skilled office support professional instead of a typist, start calling yourself a VA. But if you want to provide typing services only, call yourself a word processing service.

If you're not sure if you want to start a secretarial service or become a virtual assistant, consider starting as a secretarial business. It's easier to get local clients. To get long-distance clients, you'll have to promote yourself online. Internet advertising can be costly and requires a steep learning curve.

Your prospects may be searching the Internet for different keywords depending on their needs. Their searches may include the keywords secretarial service, secretary, typist, word processor, VA, virtual assistant, administrative assistant, or transcriptionist. Make sure to mention your location in your search engine advertising as business owners prefer working with local people when available. When promoting your services, use whatever terms your clients are using.

The best solution? Incorporate both the keywords secretarial and VA services in your business name so you can expand your business nationwide when you're ready.

The Benefits of Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes aid in the digestion of the foods we eat. They are found throughout our digestive system-in the mouth, in the stomach and in other places along our digestive track. What these enzymes do is breakdown food into fuel that our bodies can use. There are seven basic types of enzymes-with each having various sub-classifications and serving different functions. The primary types of enzymes involved in the digestive process include protease (for digesting proteins), amylase (for digesting carbohydrates) and lipase (for digesting fats).

Digestive enzyme supplementation has been getting a lot of buzz lately. The rationale for its evolution is threefold: First, though our bodies produce digestive enzymes naturally (we get them from foods too), it is thought that our modern diets-which are often full of refined sugars, saturated fats and empty calories-stress our systems to the point that they don't function properly. Second, most of the foods we eat are processed to the point that the naturally-occurring digestive enzymes that would normally be present are diminished or eradicated entirely. And finally, it is thought that as we age, our bodies produce fewer natural digestive enzymes.

Proponents of digestive enzyme therapy say that because of these three conditions, enzyme deficiencies result in not only our inability to eat certain foods (like spicy foods) but also in build-ups of toxins and undigested foods in our digestive track.

They say that this leads to the development of various health problems and illnesses including bloating, gas, heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux, bowel problems, food allergies or intolerances, cramping, weight gain and more.

The theory is that we need to restore our bodies' digestive enzyme natural balance in order to alleviate the problems associated with the deficiencies.

Some nutritionists say that eating more raw foods is one effective way to eliminate these deficiencies. All raw foods contain enzymes, many of which-provided the food is not cooked, heated, processed or irradiated above 118 degrees-will convert to digestive enzymes in our bodies. For the average person though, this is easier said than done-it's just not always practical or realistic to eat raw foods all the time.

Otherwise, taking digestive enzyme supplements is seen as a means to treat these conditions and restore the natural balance in the body. Digestive enzyme supplements can come from both natural and pharmaceutical sources.

Natural sources of digestive enzymes include animals (like from the pancreas of a pig) and plants (papayas, pineapples, figs and others). Unless a person is being treated for a specific, identified enzyme deficiency, most supplements contain a blend of different enzymes along with herbs, vitamins and/or minerals. They are usually taken in tablet form.

Now on to the big question: Does digestive enzyme supplementation really help? Well, the answer to that question is maybe-it all depends. Crappy answer, right? Not really because some studies have shown that digestive enzyme supplementation can be effective for persons who are suffering from certain conditions related to particular enzyme deficiencies. And there are plenty of people who swear by them. They take them faithfully and say that they definitely have noticed improvements in not just the related conditions, but in their overall health as well.

On the other hand though, if your digestive system functions well-that is to say, you don't have any identified problems or conditions, then your results may not be so obvious. Because your system is functioning as it should be, any benefits that you obtain from digestive enzyme supplementation might be more difficult for you to notice more so than in the case of a person who is suffering from a particular condition.

The fact is that the whole idea of taking digestive enzyme supplements is still relatively uncharted territory, so the answers are always so clear. If you notice that you are afflicted with any of the conditions mentioned above, then a regimen of digestive enzyme supplements might be just what you need to alleviate the problem. And if you don't have any of those symptoms or just aren't sure, you might want to go ahead and give it a try as well-maybe for a month or two to see if you notice any difference.

Unless you are taking diabetes medications or certain blood thinners, there have not been any reported problems from taking digestive enzyme supplements, so there shouldn't be any harm in taking them. However, you should always err on the side of caution and consult your doctor before starting any supplementation regimen just to be sure that you don't have any conditions that could potentially put you at risk.

The Worst Ab Exercise – Avoid This if You Actually Want Sexy Six Pack Abs

I was at a poker party up in North Jersey over the weekend at a friend's house.  My friend had moved into this beautiful new home about a year ago, but I had never made it up for a visit until this weekend.

Well, as they were giving us a tour of the house, we took a peek into one of their spare rooms which wasn't being used for anything. The only thing they had in this room was one of those infomercial "ab loungers" covered in dust… you know, the ab-chair looking thingy that they hawk on the infomercials as being the end-all solution to a flabby stomach… telling you that you can get a flat stomach and perfect abs just by sitting on this thing and rocking a little bit while you lazily watch tv.

The cleverly marketed infomercials for these products lure you in by showing you the ripped sexy abs of the male and female fitness models that they hired for the show (who have never actually used these gadgets themselves…they actually got their toned near-perfection bodies through following REAL workouts and strict nutrition!)

Well, since this "ab lounger" was sitting in this vacant room getting dusty, obviously it wasn't actually being used, so it was really a waste of their money that they spent on it.

Regardless, even if it was being used regularly, it would never have given my friends the results they were looking for, because these infomercial ab gadget machines (and all ab exercises for that matter), don't accomplish the most important aspect of truly achieving flat six pack abs…

THEY DON'T STIMULATE ANY FAT LOSS AT ALL!

And worse yet, just for kicks, I jumped on this "ab lounger" and gave it a try… I have to say, I've never done any abs exercise where I felt it LESS in my abs… As a matter of fact, this piece of crap lounger didn't even feel like it was making my abs work at all!

It felt more like a lounge chair I should be using to relax with a beer at a barbeque.

My point of this story is that there are still thousands of people every day that fall for these gimmicks and waste their hard-earned money on every ab-gimmick that comes out next.

So what does it REALLY take to get flat sexy six pack abs?

1. It takes some commitment to doing REAL workouts… full-body multi-joint workouts using strategic combinations of the most effective exercises for stimulating the release of fat burning hormones in your body and increasing your metabolic rate to new levels.  These are the real types of workouts that actually stimulate the burning of stomach fat and increase your metabolism to reduce body fat over your entire body.

2. It takes introducing yourself to REAL nutrition… not fad diets, not restrictive starvation, not overly processed "diet" foods, not bogus "extreme fat loss" pills… but a truly nutrient-dense natural balanced diet that FEEDS your body with what it needs instead of starving it.

3. It takes the right success mindset to achieve these goals so that you can put everything into action and make it a part of your daily life for good.  This mindset aspect is the one most often overlooked and one of the reasons most people fail in getting their desired body.

If you don't already have a copy, all of these techniques are detailed in my internationally best-selling program – The Truth about Six Pack Abs.

Tens of thousands of users in 143 countries worldwide have already used the program to change their outlook on true fitness for good. Check out common questions & answers about this abdominal fat loss program to see if this program is a good fit for you.

What Is The Glycemic Index?

What Is The Glycemic Index?

As a bodybuilder you already know that carbohydrates are an important part of our diet, and that all carbs are not created equal-some are good while others are not-so-good or even bad. The rate at which carbs release their energy determines where they fall on the spectrum. The carbs that release their energy slowly are the good ones, while the ones that release their energy quickly are the ones to avoid. There are three types of carbs: complex, simple and refined. Complex carbs are the slowest energy-releasers, with refined carbs releasing it the fastest. Knowing which is which used to be tough until the Glycemic Index was developed.

The Glycemic Index (GI) classifies carbs based on the rate at which they release energy. Carbs that that fall low on the GI scale release their energy slowly while those that are high on the GI scale release their energy quickly. This is important to know and here's why: Carbs that release their energy quickly produce a rise in blood sugar levels followed by a rapid fall, leading to a "crash," which makes us feel lethargic. On the contrary, carbs that release their energy slowly help keep blood sugar levels on an even keel, which allows us to maintain our energy levels throughout the day.

Exactly where a particular food falls on the GI is determined by how much it raises blood sugar levels over a two to three hour period. The GI uses a scale of 0-100. Most people who use the GI classify any food that ranks at 55 or below as having a low Glycemic Index, meaning that it raises blood sugar levels considerably less than foods that fall higher on the scale. Foods with a medium GI are those that have a rank of 70 or below with anything above being classified as having a high Glycemic Index.

Refined carbs release their energy very quickly and therefore, have a high Glycemic Index. These are the ones you find in processed foods. Refined carbs have been processed by machines that strip the bran and the germ from the whole grain. They fall high on the GI because they release their energy quickly. Refined carbs have been largely stripped of the nutrients, meaning that they're basically empty calories that have little nutritional value, send glucose levels skyrocketing and leave you feeling hungry a short while after you eat them. White bread and white rice are some foods that are made up of refined carbs.

What Is The Glycemic Index?

Simple carbs are mostly sugar and also release their energy quickly. You'll find them in sodas, candy, chocolate, fudge and other foods that have lots of added sugar. While you want to mostly avoid simple carbs because the majority of them have a high Glycemic Index, they're not entirely bad because most fruits-which can be very good for you to eat now and then-are made up almost entirely of simple carbs.

There are plenty of fruits made up of simple carbs that don't rank high on the GI. Fresh strawberries for example, rank 40 on the GI, well below the threshold of 55. Some other fruits that score low on the GI include apples, pears, oranges and cherries, among others. So even though they're simple carbs, feel free to occasionally add a handful of these nutritious fresh fruits to your protein shake.

Complex carbs-like the ones you find in broccoli, beans and whole grains-generally score the lowest on the GI. These are the nutrient-rich, slow burning carbs. They don't cause glucose levels to spike and since they release their energy slowly, they help keep the body feeling "full" and satisfied longer than fast-releasing carbs. This is important not only for sustaining energy levels throughout the day but is essential for maintaining proper weight.

It's important to note that while the Glycemic Index can be a useful tool, it should serve as a general guideline, not as a hard and fast rule. If your goal is to lose weight, then you should definitely stick with almost entirely with foods that have a low GI. As a bodybuilder though, there are times when you will certainly want to mix in some foods with a higher GI-particularly after an intense training session when your body needs a quick burst of energy. In any case, the Glycemic Index really is a handy, worthwhile and easy-to-use planning tool, especially since there are lots of interactive websites that allow you to enter the name of a food to quickly find out its Glycemic Index.

Your Stomach After Pregnancy – Why Ignoring the Problem Won’t Make it Go Away

Immediately after having a baby is when you are most in need of spending time on yourself. You need time to heal and recover from what may be one of the biggest traumas you will ever have to go through. Your body and especially your stomach after pregnancy will have to be repaired and nurtured back to its former glory.

Whilst your body has been miraculously designed to be able to cope with the growth of a baby, and almost equally as well able to recover afterwards, it is going to need some help.

If you went in for any surgical operation, you wouldn't expect to be able to simply spring back to life and carry on as if nothing had happened immediately afterwards.

Yet for most new mothers the reality is that this is how it usually is. You have to cope with your own recovery, but also the demands of a new baby, all without lack of adequate rest or sleep.Whilst this is very much a balancing act between all the different demands on your time, your body does need some attention, it needs taking care of.

Unfortunately you will very rarely revert back to your pre pregnancy shape over night, your stomach won't simply spring back to its past glory within a couple of days. You have to encourage these changes and help things along.

The good news is that you can definitely get back in to great shape after having a baby, but it takes a little effort and planning.

Perhaps the biggest problem and challenge is firming up your stomach after pregnancy, follow these guidelines to help you to quickly see results:-

If you have gained a few pounds during pregnancy, it is likely that a large amount of that will be stored around the stomach. Your first challenge is to lose a little of this fat so that the stress on the spine is reduced and your waistline begins to get smaller.

Cut out any unnecessary calorie laden foods, don't forget that although you may need slightly more calories to help with breastfeeding and your recovery, you are no longer eating to support the growth of your baby inside you.

Your stomach muscles will be weak and these need to be strengthened by performing pelvic tilting exercises regularly each day. Avoid doing sit ups at this stage as they can actually increase the size of the stomach by stretching the muscles still further apart.

Start walking at least once a day, begin with short routes that take no longer than 20 – 30 minutes to complete and then as you become stronger and fitter, increase the effort it takes by walking faster, for longer, up hills or with more weight in the pram. As with all exercise the key is to be consistent and always make things a little harder on a regular basis.

Combine exercise with daily tasks and break down in to smaller chunks, for example, walking to the shops, practising your pelvic floor exercises when you are feeding your baby, doing pelvic tilting exercises when your baby is with you, sleeping yourself when your baby sleeps.

By approaching things this way you can ensure that you don't forsake the time needed to spend with your baby for time needed for your own recovery. The key point to remember is that although you have new priorities, you still need to devote some time to yourself. You will never have a flat stomach after pregnancy if you simply leave it to chance.

How To Build Muscle, Olympic Style – Part 1

Every four years, while watching the summer Olympics, you would be hard pressed not to notice the great physiques possessed by many of the athletes. But by far and away the most muscular bodies always belong to the gymnasts and the sprinters. These guys certainly know how to build muscle more effectively than most average gym rats.

For years now I have been extolling the virtues of moving your body through space when you train, as opposed to simply moving your limbs around a fixed object. When you move your body through space, as the Olympic gymnasts do, you stimulate a much higher level of neuromuscular activation. In simple terms this means that you call more muscle fibers into play on any one exercise. And the more muscle fibers you activate, the more you will grow.

So if you want to develop an incredible physique, take a lesson from the Olympic gymnasts on how to build muscle, and start moving your body through space as much as possible while you train. Following is a list of exercises to start you on the path to getting huge.

  1. Instead of triceps pushdowns do parallel bar dips.
Have you noticed how many dips and how much work the Olympians do on the parallel bars? And have you noticed the size of their triceps? Need I say more?
  2. Instead of barbell curls do close grip chin ups.
Ditto what I said about the dips. Not only do you get incredible biceps development from close grip chins but you also get the added bonus of massive lat and forearm development.
    MGS Banner
  3. Instead of bench presses do chain or strap suspended pushups.
While the bench press can be an effective mass building exercise it can also be one of the worst for your shoulders. If you want to be safer and build a chest and pair of shoulders like you see on the Olympic gymnasts I would highly recommend some type of chain or strap suspended pushup. This movement will call far more muscle fibers into play and challenge the smaller stabilizers muscles as well. Not only that but you will get an outstanding ab workout from this movement as well; something that can't be said for the bench press.
  4. Instead of leg presses, leg extensions or leg curls do double and single leg squats.
When you sit in a fixed machine and move weight with your limbs as opposed to moving your body the level of neuromuscular activation is quite low; no matter how much weight you use. And it is very unnatural. A leg press allows you to build strength in your lower body without additional gains in lower back and core strength. This is not normal and creates an imbalance that will lead to future problems. When you do squats you incorporate nearly every muscle from head to toe and will not only build tree trunk sized legs but will stimulate growth throughout your entire body.
  5. Instead of crunches and sit ups do all of the exercises listed above.
Isolation abdominal exercises like crunches and sit ups are not real life type movements. In real life your abdominals contract isometrically to protect your spine; they do not contract the way they do in a crunch or sit up.  Not only that, but by continually flexing your spine for hundreds of reps per week, you will surely be setting yourself up for long term back problems.
If you follow a steady diet of chins, dips, suspended pushups and squats you will build an incredible set of abs. When you watch the Olympic gymnasts you immediately notice their rock solid abs popping right through their spandex and they never do crunches or sit ups. You simply can't hide abs like that. That kind of six pack is built with full body movements like the ones listed above.
But if you still want to do a little extra ab work you can add in exercises like planks and ab wheel rollouts; just skip the sit ups and crunches.

Now you know how to build muscle, Olympic style. Stick with these time tested exercises and the others listed in my Muscle Gaining Secrets course for the next eight weeks and be prepared add some massive slabs of beef to your physique.
